Bow Exchange, London E3

CField Construction, is a leading Building and Civil Engineering contractor, operating in the UK and Ireland. Link365 were brought on as the main mechanical contractor for the exciting London development, Bow Exchange.

The Bow Exchange development located in Tower Hamlets, features 92 apartments, across 10 floors, with 3 commercial units.

This project featured external walk-way access to the apartments, which is less common in new builds today. Our team were responsible for installing a full mechanical and public health services package including, sprinklers, ducting, heat pumps, MEV units, SVP and rainwater, ducting and water storage tanks.

Bow Exchange will also feature landscaped public open space, communal amenity space, on-site child play space, waste storage, cycle parking and disabled car parking. This development is part of the Help to Buy Scheme (up to £600,000) and features:

  • New-build development a few miles from the City of London and Canary Wharf
  • Stunning collection of apartments
  • Situated alongside Limehouse Canal

Link365 managed and coordinated the mechanical and public health service requirements of the project, in addition to supplying, installing, testing and commissioning the mechanical services.

Challenges

A particular challenge faced by the team on this project was starting the plant room works while the crane was still on site. The crane base was located in the centre of the plant room. Link365 overcame this challenge by adapting the plant room works around the crane base. This enabled the team to start and finish earlier on this area of works.

Another challenge for this specific project was the footprint of the building. The building was ‘U’ shaped, with all communal pipework located outdoors. Each dwelling had a lightwell outside of it, which meant there was a requirement for scaffolding in each lightwell, encroaching on pipe work and access routes, resulting in longer installation times than expected.

End of Project Reflection

Link365 are proud to deliver this project for CField. Our planning and communication of our program was key to delivering a smooth and quality project.

Our team demonstrated their strengths well on this project and this program provides us with a benchmark for future projects that call for a similar program of works.
